Scratch the Surface

We can’t get enough of Scratch the Surface’s pretty crockery, each featuring a scribbled tableau straight out of a storybook.

Ymke Hemminga is the paintbrush behind Scratch the Surface. This illustrator extraordinaire originally hails from a “Benoni-esque” village in the Netherlands where she was forced to find humour in the mundane or die of boredom. Her warm sketches remind us of Quentin Blake’s work for Roald Dahl and take us right back to our childhoods. Scratch the Surface have collaborated with another BCL favourite, Raw Studio, to bring some of Hemminga’s trademark whimsy to their IKONIK range of wood lockers.
